Ultima 1 Revenge: Updated
I’ve actually been sitting on this for two or three days, for which I apologize. Dino the Dark Dragon has published a new build of his Ultima 1 reverse-engineering project, Ultima 1 Revenge; you can grab it from the project entry now.
Explains Dino:
At this point the graphics and map files have been figured out, the savegame file is mostly deciphered, and this [second demo] is a proof of concept that uses all of them. Any future work will be done on areas of the game that are not so well-known, such as the intro, space, monsters, combat, spells, dungeons, NPCs, Mondain, etc. For this reason it is expected that development will slow down and I will be concentrating on better understanding these various areas.
He also points out a few corrections that need to be made to my previous description of the project, because Ultima 1 Revenge is not just a revamped engine for Ultima 1. Dino is also working on a tile viewer and map viewer, which he has been using heavily to help him understand the game’s file formats. However, at present, neither of these tools are of a quality he deems acceptable for release.
He also intends to write a savegame editor at some point in the future, although his priority for now is on documenting how the game works.
Nice work Dino. Keep it up. 🙂
