The Ultima 6 Remake: Moonglow Structures Complete

Zygon Dragon reports that The Ultima 6 Remake has achieved another worldbuilding milestone:

Moonglow is complete structure-wise, it just needs roof work done and some slight fixing of the map, and then npcs. U6 books will be imported to fill the Lycaeum, and then the U7 books that would fit in. We will be taking submissions via the website for custom books to be imported into the game. Here are some ideas we are looking for: “historical accounts” of events from past games or current (u6) events, diaries, treatises, stories, poems and other written things similar to the random books you’d find in U7. Just keep them relevant to the game, and not too big (about the size of u7 books). Please email us all submissions.

Not unlike what the Forgotten World team requested some time ago, The Ultima 6 Remake team are looking for submissions from the community for additional book content. So dust off the fan fiction or fire up the word processor, and get your little piece of Ultima-inspired writing immortalized in this promising project!

While it’s cool that so much attention is being paid to having books in these games, I think it’s sad that the feature is being under utilized. Why not make a larger display format available, such as a full-screen representation of a book with both mouse and arrow key navigation and unlimited book size? Nothing fancy, but something legible for a real read if the user chooses. We’re talking about 8-bit (7, depending) text, after all. Nothing compared to a bitmap or a sound file.

There are plenty of texts out there begging for distribution (religious, philosophical, public domain, starving artist, what-have-you). I also think that the requirement that books be Ultima-related is a mistake. If some player’s first read of HP Lovecraft is in an Ultima spinoff, he’ll sing its praises and the game will be the better for it. Think outside the box, as they say.

To be fair, there were a few “real world” books in Ultima 6. Why, you could get a rich sum of gems from Lord British if you brought him a copy of The Wizard of Oz.

In other words, Kevin has a quite valid point.

Thank you sir, may I have another! 🙂

Here’s some very cool stuff, which if read may even inspire some quests or other flights of dark fancy:

All public domain. No permissions required.

There are a ton of books you could take from U5:L and U6P, if you got their permission.

Sanctimonia, I guess if it would “fit” as in not look out of place in an Ultima game, it would be totally fine.

Also, Moonglow is structurally complete now. Working on the crypts currently 🙂

I agree with that. Tom Clancy type stuff wouldn’t be so great, for example (although I suppose technically any books could have been brought from Earth to Britannia by those with moongate access). The Lovecraft stuff would fit in that it deals with the cosmos and the unknown, ancient beasts within it. It’s also written poetically and uses a lot of archaic terminology, making it sound old and mysterious.

Have a stab at some of these:

    Now that’s what I call a Lycaeum.
