Wing Commander 3 Released on Good Old Games!
Good Old Games released Wing Commander 1 & 2 a little while ago, leaving many people wondering just when one or more of its sequels might also be released. Today, those questions are answered, at least in part; Wing Commander 3 has been released as well, at the quite reasonable price of $5.99.
The Wing Commander series shares a tongue-in-cheek connection with the Ultima series, of course; the Kilrathi made the odd appearance, hinted and overt, in various Ultima games. As such, I’ll be posting a few pieces of Wing Commander 3-related content on the site today.
That said, to properly celebrate the release of another ground-breaking* Origin game on GOG, I can only direct you to the Wing Commander CIC, which I am sure will be going insane with new content. Be sure to also hit up the #WingNut IRC channel, which will likely be bustling with activity all day long, and especially during the evening hours.
* This is not hyperbole; Wing Commander 3 was ahead of its time in many respects. Not only was it a 3D flight sim, and not only did it feature live-action cutscenes, but it quite correctly anticipated that the use of composited CGI backdrops would become mainstream, and so went ahead (and great expense) with the use thereof in many of its between-mission sequences.
This too, I imagine, is not the Kilrathi Saga version.
I don’t think it’s the KS version, no.
