The Wing Commander 3 Introduction
To celebrate the release of Wing Commander 3 on Good Old Games today, it seems fitting to start things off with the introductory videos to the PC and PSX versions of the game.
There really isn’t anything notable in the way of differences; the PSX version of the game was, I gather, more or less a straightforward port.
And remember: to properly celebrate the release of another ground-breaking* Origin game on GOG, I can only direct you to the Wing Commander CIC, which I am sure will be going insane with new content. Be sure to also hit up the #WingNut IRC channel, which will likely be bustling with activity all day long, and especially during the evening hours.
Epic! ‘nuf said!
The PSX version was a pretty straight port. It has a few cuts (the ground missions are removed) and adds back footage cut from the original game (owing to the larger size CDs) but the gameplay is all supposed to be as close to the PC as possible.
The really cool port is the 3DO version, which opted to redesign the gameplay and change all the mission layouts to be more action oriented to better match the console… probably my favorite console port of anything, ever (and it’s like finding a completely different WC3, if you haven’t played it.)
