I'm Participating in Extra Life (And So Can You, On Team "Vas Mani")!
Dear Friends and Ultima Fans,
Because my own children — and thousands of children every year — have benefited from the excellent care given by the Stollery Children’s Hospital, I am participating in Extra Life this year to raise funds to support their ongoing delivery of healthcare to critically ill children.
On Oct. 15, 2011, I’ll attempt to play video games for 24 hours straight in the hope that you’ll support me by giving just $1 per hour ($24 total).
Your donation is tax-deductible and 100 percent of your gift goes to help sick kids.
My fellow Extra Life gamers and I are going to make miracles happen for kids. I can’t reach my goal without your support. Any contribution will help, and all donations are tax deductible. Donating online is safe and easy! To make an online donation please click the “Support This Participant” button on this page.
And if, good Dragons and Dragonettes, you want to participate in Extra Life yourself, please consider signing up for the Ultima-centric team I’ve put together: Vas Mani. Then tell your friends and family all about it, and help raise funds to help critically ill kids.
How do they know you’re actually going to play video games for 24 hours? Must you report to an approved facility and undergo observation?
They should get the voice actress from Portal to commence the events over loudspeaker, and allow you to bring your own equipment (headphones only for audio though).
I have little money, but would be interested in donating if you make a video montage of your journey so we could all enjoy it. Make a lot of coffee, and be sure you can control the selection of games.
Great cause! I’ll have to join once I can get some funds together. Plus, there are charity shirts as well:

I’ll have to put together a Vas Mani iron-on to put on the back. =)
Oooh…I like shirts! Good find!
I think you can sign up now, funds or no; once you’re in the system, people can start donating to you, which counts toward both your personal goal and the team total.
Ok, I’m signed up on your team. Now to start raising funds.
To answer the original questions, it looks like they do track your PSN, Xbox Live, and Steam accounts, presumably so you can find other users who are participating that use those services. But that is optional; I’ll probably be playing Wii that day.
I’ve punched in my Steam ID, but I plan to focus on non-Steam titles that day. Speed runs of Ultima 6 and Wing Commander 3 seem likely, and I might tack The Longest Journey onto the list as well. and possibly other games…it depends on time, of course.
I am also contemplating using FRAPS and/or DOSbox’s video output feature to record what all I end up playing.
I played U7 for over 24 straight multiple times as a kid. I’m sure you can do it. 😉
Ok, you’ve got my sponsorship Kenneth, since I don’t have my wallet right here and I’m lazy tonight : if you don’t see it come up by Monday, shoot me an email and it’ll be done 🙂
Sound good ?
Jc
Ps: I wonder if they’d let me program 24 hours straight :-), that could help out backtoroots!
Will do, JC, and thanks.
I don’t see why you couldn’t write a game for 24 hours straight…and now I wonder who I could ask about that?
I’m sure I can throw some money your way, to help out a good cause!
They take international payments, right?
As far as I know, yes. Thanks, Andy.
Done, I did remember today and had my wallet 😉
Good luck !
Thanks kindly, JC!
