Iris2 Has Been Updated
Iris2, the enhanced 3D client for Ultima Online freeshards, has been updated to build 3395, after over a year of no significant news (the last update was released in March of 2010).
The project’s changelog is a bit obtuse, so I’m not exactly sure what all has been changed in this new build versus the previous release, although I’m assume that it’s the usual mix of optimizations and bugfixes that tend to characterize such things. If anyone from the Iris2 project wants to put me right in my understanding, the comments form is of course open.
Per a request from the development team, you won’t find the new downloads at the project entry, but you will find links there to their current set of downloads. Or you can hit up the project site proper to find them, of course.

Hey Petrell,
you are 100% correct. This are the usual bugfixes.
Iris2 is not only 3D…it 2D & 3D. It has two Renderers. 2D for legacy UO view and 3D for … ähm 3D view.

Forgive my ignorance, but has anyone replicated the server code so the entire game may be played without depending on official UO servers? It would be nice to replicate the whole thing, so it could go on without dependency on any official channels at all. If both the client and server have been replicated, what is left? Art assets?
For ServerCode you have to visit a UO Server Emulator Site.
-RunUO (full replic up to 7th edition)
-Pol Server
-Sphere (old)
Iris2 is only the Client. We depend on 2D Art Assets as well as on 3D Character Models.
Shure we thought of recreatating the whole assets, but over the years we dicovered, thats too much work for only 3 people (Iris2 Team) ;-).
Thats why we asked several times over the years for help, but sadly 2D/3D Artists are very rare! Most people step in and want to help, but after 2 to 4 weeks they give up.
Also the UO Community is centered round the Freeshards and not around free Clients. So most people only help the Freeshard they are playing on and not the Client they want to play with (which is better, because all benefit from it).
Here is the lastest help request:

I understand. It is hard to get help.
I’m not working on 3D assets, but am working on detailed 2D assets for multiple objects. You could freely use my images for objects as replacement assets. I’m still experimenting with things to get the proper photo, but so far, so good. They’d be high-res with proper alpha. Here are some initial and possibly really crappy examples:

Thx :).
I take a look into it. Maybe you can visit our forum to get in touch with us?
