Uh…I might've broken the site, kind of (updated!)
Update above the post: Okay, my apologies, but it looks like some of you are going to have to re-register. I won’t change the invitation code for now, until everyone has gotten their site login restored.
Original post: I’ve obviously still got posting rights, which is good, and downloads (thankfully!) work. That said, a lot of you may be experiencing major issues with your logins and user accounts. I tried to migrate the contents of the forum into bbPress, which integrates its users with the site, and…well…the process didn’t go off as planned. So now I’m in the process of getting things back in order.
Be patient with me, is what I am saying to you. And sorry!
Slight update: I’m not sure how to proceed, admittedly. My gut feeling is to cut out BuddyPress, bbPress, and everything related thereto…though with the damage to the database entries, I’d probably have to wipe out the user database as well. I have one chance, I think, to get user accounts mostly corrected, and I hope it works.
But yeah…I’m thinking I’ll just take another stab at getting WP-United up and running. Because this is no good.
Slightly bigger update: Okay, I’ve done some database work and have HOPEFULLY restored everyone’s user accounts to working order. Please do try your login at your earliest convenience; leave a comment here if you get in. If you don’t get in at first, try your forum login instead. If that still doesn’t work, comment posting should still work “the old fashioned way” (e.g. enter your information manually).
The point is, I need information from y’all, in order to see if there are other things I need to try and correct.
For those who are curious: This is basically the error I am now having to deal with. Read down through that discussion, and take note of the solution that the majority of participants opted for.
I’ll probably be doing that to Aiera at some point, though not immediately. If anyone has experience mitigating this error without a complete re-install of the WordPress software, do let me know, eh?
I suppose I should make sure I can post comments, too.
I can’t log in.
Okay. I’m laid up at home with a nasty stomach bug, so I might not be able to get on that just yet, but I’ll aim to fix it up by tomorrow.
Sorry bud, I checked and I can’t log on either. Resetting the password reveals that the e’mail address doesn’t exist in the database.
Yeah, that does seem to be what happened. The script should have appended the users from phpBB to the extant list of users; it wound up overwriting them instead.
Bloody brilliant, that.
Okay…if it turns out that your email address doesn’t exist, just re-register; the invitation code hasn’t been changed yet. I can also create users from my end, if need be.
doh! Lost my guardian avatar and option to use a custom one 🙁 Back to mr men avatars *sigh*
Don’t think I will be able to conquer Britannia as Mr Tickle. hahahaha
Actually, the User Avatars plugin will be back online in about a minute here…
Update: Okay, it’s back.
We’re giving you some work on your sick day 🙂 hahaha Couldn’t have you slacking off now 😉
Who said it was a sick day?
I mean, yes, I don’t fell quite back up to 100%, but I am taking this as a working day rather than a day at home.
And anyway, there’s something special that I have to post news about in…another half hour or so. Can’t go missing out on that, can I?
I’m back…ahhh much better… No more Mr Tickle. hahaha
Mua ha ha?
I had to have the site reset my password but then I was able to log in and set the password again.
Something I’ve been missing in regard to the wordpress on the site and logging in is the “remember me” button, so you don’t need to login every time. You can get to a page with such a checkbox though when you hit login up there without providing name/password…
Yes, if you just click Login without entering your credentials, you’ll get taken to the main login page, which has the little checkbox. Adding a similar checkbox to the front of the site would be difficult, I think; not sure I have room left in the template.
As an aside: I’ve gotten out of caching my credentials on a system. I just use Keepass to auto-launch a browser window and fill in my details for me. Comes with the job, I guess.
