Ultima Forever: Well, At Least the Chat System Got Fixed
There has been almost nothing in the way of news concerning Mythic’s Ultima Forever since…February, more or less, which was when the last major update for the game was rolled out. And even that update didn’t inspire a lot of confidence; it basically unlocked a series of “infinite” dungeons, a move which some took to mean that the game was being put out to pasture…an opinion that has been seemingly vindicated by the apparent abandonment of the game’s official forums by the Mythic developers that once used to frequent it fairly often.
Even threads like this one go unanswered by the team at Mythic, assuming that there is even still an Ultima Forever team at Mythic to speak of. Though to be fair, there is actually — amazingly — some evidence to be had that there are still developers at said studio allocated to work on the game. From the same thread:
…I was really surprised when I contacted mythic about the chat problem we had previously this week. They replied really fast and under those days we emailed back and forward they really tried to help and on Saturday the chat was working again. They haven’t left the game completely
Of course, a fix for the chat system isn’t anywhere near as great as…say…the addition of new character classes, sailable boats, or new dungeons (the Stygian Abyss, perhaps?) would be. But there’s now at least the slightest indication that the game hasn’t been totally abandoned. I’ll take that for what it’s worth, and probably for a bit more than that.
