While translating Ultima 6 into German, I found a couple of bugs in the original game, I chose to address with this patch. One thing led to another and soon I started to get rid of some of the inaccurancies that had been buggering me all along. Hacki's Ultima page (http://hacki.bootstrike.com/english/nitpicks_u6.htm) was a perfect source of information on nitpicks feelow Ultima fans have found and noted down over the years, so big thanks go out to him and everybody involved!

Alas, this file lists all bugs I have found as well as 22 inaccurancies and nitpicks addressed with this patch. Accordingly, it's full of spoilers. So beware ;-)

Do give you another chance to run away, I first list all bugs I found and fixed, followed by a list that contains only the flaws and faults, but not what I did to address these. And only at the bottom of the file you will find the list of nitpicks along with a spoilerous description of how I addressed these.

Enjoy thy game :-)

Sir John, 2019

LIST OF BUGS BEING FIXED WITH THIS PATCH

--> Some correct copy protection answers at Mariah, did not work. They do now.

--> Some keywords in Zellivans convo were double, so the correct answers did not show up. They do now.

--> Same for Boskin: some double keywords eliminated.

--> Andrea in Yew now responds when asked about Lenora, Lady and Mayor.
Originally she would have referred you to the folks in the tavern and would only respond to Chancellor.

LIST OF NITPICKS

01. Julia acts as if you had never met her before.

02. Mariah acts like a total stranger as well.

03. Gideon refers to Marneys Mum as Elisabeth. Yet Quenton calls her Gwen in Ultima VII. Quenton should know he married the girl ??

04. Terri indicates that a celebration took place after the Quest of the Avatar had been solved. She implies that the Avatar himself participated, which contradicts the events at the end of Ultima IV.

05. The Book of Prophecies reads: And the false prophet will cause the underworld to collapse. But the Gargoyles consider Britannia to be the underworld!

06. Lazeena refers to her husband as Artagel

07. The book The First Age of Darkness mentions Britannia. Yet... there was no Britannia back then

08. Lord British doesnt bother to mentioned the moonstones being lost

09. The Orb of the Moons appearance doesnt match the description from Ultima V as a small, RED sphere

10. Daver, the bellringer in Britain describes the runes bearing a symbol on one side and a letter on the other. And that the runes probably spell something out if put on a necklace. But why would the Avatar had to consult the Shrines in Ultima IV to get the letters if they were written clearly on the runes themselves?

11. When you buy a magic shield in Ultima V, the merchant claims that each of them requires a 100 year ritual to be created (slight hyperbole?), yet in Ultima VI, the armourer Gherick makes you one in the blink of ones eye.

12. Tara is cured from her schizophrenic disorder.

13. Caradon mixes up shrines.

14. Is it Captain John or Captain Johne who lives in Hythloth? The writing of the Captains name is inconsistent. In Ultima V the name was spelled Johne, in Ultima VI it is mostly spelled John only Captain Elad in Bucs Den refers to him as Johne (...Captain Johne, that fool... He was captured by gargoyles....). Thanks to Elad, we can at least be sure, that it IS the same person, we are talking about

15. In Ultima VI, you are constantly accused of stealing the Codex from the Gargoyles. But you did not! You were sent right back to Earth after consulting it at the end of Ultima IV. Its the High Council that raised the Codex from the Abyss in the time between Ultima IV and Ultima V.

16. What happened to the magic carpet from Ultima V? Shouldnt one of the companions have it? Even more mysterious: In Ultima VII, the carpet is going to reappear without any explanation at all.

17. What happened to the Temple of Virtues in Cove? It was there in Ultima IV and V.

18. In the past, the observatory was integrated into the Lycaeum instead of being a separate building.

19. Stelnar Starhelm confuses shrines

20. In Ultima 6 you learn that its not possible to resurrect a burnt body. However, in Ultima III, there was a spell called ANJU SERMANI, which served exactly this purpose.

21. Un-arm-ing Zeke (SCNR :-D)

22. The Quenton Murder Sidequest is now playable and solvable

Other Bugfixes, that I have addressed with this patch:

+ Some correct copy protection answers at Mariah, did not work. They do now
+ Some keywords in Zellivans convo were double, so the correct answers did not show up.
  They do now
+ Same for Boskin: some double keywords eliminated
+ Andrea in Yew now responds when asked about Lenora, Lady and Mayor. Originally she
would have referred you to the folks in the tavern and would only respond to Chancellor.
+ The final "CONGRATULATIONS! Report thy Feat!" Screen is up to date ;-)

LIST OF NITPICKS AND SPOILERS BELOW

################################################

01. Julia acts as if you had never met her before.

> She wonders whether the Avatar might have forgotten her name now.
She says: Sure and youre goin daft, $G. I be named Julia, same as the last time we met!
2nd visit: Still named Julia I am, $G. We met before, ye know.

02. Mariah acts like a total stranger as well.

> She wonders whether the Avatar might have forgotten her name now.
She sayd: They call me Mariah. Thou havent forgot my name, have you?

03. Gideon refers to Marneys Mum as Elisabeth. Yet Quenton calls her Gwen in Ultima VII. Quenton should know he married the girl ??

> Gideon calls her Gwen or "Gwennie", too now.

04. Terri indicates that a celebration took place after the Quest of the Avatar had been solved. She implies that the Avatar himself participated, which contradicts the events at the end of Ultima IV.

> She now says: My mother used to tell me stories about you when I was a girl. You probably wouldnt remember her, but she was at the big celebration right after you recovered the Codex.

05. The Book of Prophecies reads: And the false prophet will cause the underworld to collapse. But the Gargoyles consider Britannia to be the underworld!

> Modified the book to read And the false prophet will cause the gargoyle realm to collapse.

06. Lazeena refers to her husband as Artagel

> She calls him Artegal now, too.

07. The book The First Age of Darkness mentions Britannia. Yet... there was no Britannia back then

> Modified the book to read Sosaria instead.

08. Lord British doesnt bother to mentioned the moonstones being lost

> In his introductory round-up LB now mentions: Thus far they have mainly been attacking the @shrines of the eight @virtues. (new from here:) Also, these beasts have managed to usurp the moonstones. Perhaps thou canst find out, what they art up to with these. (back to original: ) When the Shrine of Compassion didst fall, Sir @Geoffrey sent a party to free it.

09. The Orb of the Moons appearance doesnt match the description from Ultima V as a small, RED sphere

> When you show Lord British the black orb now, I added Peculiar enough, thy stone is black, not red as mine own. to his somewhat elaborated monologue...

10. Daver, the bellringer in Britain describes the runes bearing a symbol on one side and a letter on the other. And that the runes probably spell something out if put on a necklace. But why would the Avatar had to consult the Shrines in Ultima IV to get the letters if they were written clearly on the runes themselves?

> Daver has a new convo tree and can be asked about spell (as in spell something out) and answers: Aye. A word or the likes. Oh, that reminds me of an interesting sidenote. Did you know: Rumour has it, that the runes did not always show the letters. But rather, that they have magically shown up suddenly. I really wonder what may have happened, that caused this... ...Ach, please forgive me. Since youre the Avatar, you had probably known already.

11. When you buy a magic shield in Ultima V, the merchant claims that each of them requires a 100 year ritual to be created (slight hyperbole?), yet in Ultima VI, the armourer Gherick makes you one in the blink of ones eye.

> Koranada when being asked for magic and process answers: 'Tis secret, as well. Not too long ago, 'tis wouldst have takenth a century to craft. But @Gherick luckily found a way to speed up the process.

12. Tara is cured from her schizophrenic disorder.

> When you asked Tara (Minoc) to heal, bring no money but high karma, you would have learned that ->SASHA< - approaches you and binds the wounds."
Minor sidenote: she now speaks of curing when addressing poisoning not healing.

13. Caradon mixes up shrines.

> Caradon speaks of fighting at the Shrine of Honesty (On Dagger Island) as well as the fight taking place in Yew (Near the Shrine of Justice). As he continues the story, stating he went to a nearby town for help, it must have been the Shrine of Justice where he fought against the Gargoyles. I changed the Shrines name accordingly: (...) There I was, with ten companions. Outside the Shrine of Justice stood two gargoyles. (...)

Thanks to Elad, we can at least be sure, that it IS the same person, we are talking about ??

> I left the inconsistent writings in the game and added some dialogue option to the conversation file with the Captain, who now offers his own explanation: The e at the end of his name was always meant to be a silent one. And as he actually dislikes his name to be pronounced as Joanie, he deemed it easier to adujst the spelling to the more common John to circumvent further irritations. Hope, that fits the bill. ;-).
When being asked for john now, the Captain answers:
Ah, you remember my name being spelled differently, dont you? I should have anticipated that. You are the Avatar after all. He winks at you.
To be honest, I was tired of everyone mispronouncing my name as Joanie and the likes.
Since e in Johne was always meant to be a silent one, it was simply easier to adjust the spelling to the more common John.
But since you never struggled to pronounce my name correctly, please feel free to stick to Johne if you like it better.

15. In Ultima VI, you are constantly accused of stealing the Codex from the Gargoyles. But you did not! You were sent right back to Earth after consulting it at the end of Ultima IV. Its the High Council that raised the Codex from the Abyss in the time between Ultima IV and Ultima V.

> I have altered the dialogue of Terri from Of course we have you to thank for bringing us the Codex and saving Lord British. to Of course we have you to thank for saving Lord british and helping us to recover the Codex. Caretaker, Naxatilor, and Goodscrafter are still accusing the Avatar to be the theft. As is Mariah in her translation of the Book of Prophecies. The book may well be inaccurate for a whole bunch of reasons (Propaganda? Avatar bashing?) and it is only natural that the Gargoyles would believe what they have learned to be the truth since they were little. Even so some of them are far older than any human around.

16. What happened to the magic carpet from Ultima V? Shouldnt one of the companions have it? Even more mysterious: In Ultima VII, the carpet is going to reappear without any explanation at all.

> Naturally it suffered from the events in Ultima V and is in desperate need of repair. The only person capable of such delicate work is as you will have guessed Charlotte Weaver in New Magincia of course. If Iolo is with the Avatar, she lets know, that she has the carpet in custody and will repair it as soon as her time permits:
(Old) I am not very good, but some people take pity on me and buy my @cloth anyway.
(Added if Iolo is around:)Oh, by the way... She turns to Iolo, Much to my regret I have not yet found the time to have a look at that magic @carpet you brought in for me to have a look.
When asked about this carpet she adds: Yes, I have it right here. It is useless at the moment and in desperate need of repair. As soon as time permits I will have a look, if there is anything I can do, but I heavily doubt it. And even if that was the case, it will take literally ages to weave the magic back into the carpet. And there is so much other work. Oh, my!

17. What happened to the Temple of Virtues in Cove? It was there in Ultima IV and V.

> When you now ask Ahrmand about the gargoyles or the temple he lets you know: These gargoyles are ferocious beasts indeed. Before they occupied the shrine, they destroyed the Temple of Virtue. Not a single brick was left. Can you believe it? The temple, of all things!

18. In the past, the observatory was integrated into the Lycaeum instead of being a separate building.

> True. Accordingly Ephemerides now lets you know, that the old observatory got too small for their needs and thus they built the new one.
Ah, you noticed. Yes, the old observatory got to small for our requirements. Lord British generously afforded us this brand new one.

19. Stelnar Starhelm confuses shrines

> Originally Stelnar Starhelm confuses the Shrine of Honesty and the Shrine of Sacrifice. This is fixed now.

20. In Ultima 6 you learn that its not possible to resurrect a burnt body. However, in Ultima III, there was a spell called ANJU SERMANI, which served exactly this purpose.

-> Caradon originally said: "If they had not burned his body, my captain might have been resurrected."
I softened that a bit, so that he now says: "If they had not burned his body, my captain might have been resurrected. At least I heard heard stories about a spell, that existed to resurrect the dead. Once... back in an ancient age..."

21. Un-arm-ing Zeke (SCNR :-D)

-> Despite being described as "a strong looking man with just one arm." Zeke will "fold his arms." if you decide not to buy honey of him. I decided to go with a tiny pun here and modified the convo so he now "folds his arm."
