Nuvie and xu4 Downloads Updated

Periodically, I go through the various project sites that Aiera links to, looking for bits of news where they can be found. I got lucky this time, and found that two separate engines for running older Ultima titles had published updates within the past month or so.

Nuvie, the Ultima 6 engine, published updates to both its Windows and Mac OS X download snapshots; the Mac snapshot in particular was quite recent. I have updated Aiera’s local copies of both, and they can be acquired via the Nuvie project entry.

In like manner, both the Windows and Mac snapshots for xu4, the Ultima 4 engine, were updated at the end of last month. Once again, Aiera’s local copies have been updated, and can be obtained via the xu4 project entry.

Or you can visit the homepages of either project, of course.

Xu4 has incorporated a cool new tileset ans had been doing a lot of bug fixes recently. It’s neato. Nuvie has a lot of new features pushing it towards compatibility as well.

Good news if the code base has been improved. Hopefully everything still works on the usual platforms. I love xu4, but I’ve not had the pleasure of testing Nuvie yet.

I do like Ultima VI, if the window were larger and the red dirt turned brown.

In other news, still having problems will full screen rotation, see here:

If anyone has any insight, I’m listening.

Time to check out the even newer xu4 snapshots! Why? Because Andrew added his awesome improvement (IMO) to the xu4 interface http://xu4.sourceforge.net/images/upgrade640.png
Snapshots for Windows and OS X include this now (configure->video->game graphics->VGA2

Funny…I had news about that very update queued up to post tonight.

But what I lacked was a screenshot. Thanks for that; I’ll be sure to post it!
