The Ultima 6 Remake: Overworld Finished; Suggestions for Content Wanted

A new update has been posted to The Ultima 6 Remake’s Facebook page:

Yesterday I was cleaning up the overworld map, fixing the coastlines and making them look nice. Structurally, the overworld is finished… it just needs to be polished up and fixed in a few spots. Also, still tweaking areas for the demo. I keep finding things to fix or add, enhance and so on. What sort of additions would you like to see in this version of U6? What kind of functionality or interactions would you like to see? Discuss!

It’s good to hear that the overworld is largely complete at this point. As for what could be added to this version of Ultima 6, my thoughts are that it would be nice if Britannia felt a bit more as though the Gargoyles were actually attacking it. There should be occasional random encounters with parties of marauding Gargoyles, for example, instead of yet another fight against mongbats and swashbucklers.

  1. Well, I actually would like to see places in the remake like the ones in Ultima 7 deep Forest were you could find a mage doing a sacrifice, or a random fighter camping and things like that.

    Another thing that I actually miss a lot in Ultima games is the companions talking a bit more between themselves. For instance, maybe you can find a family or farmer killed in the wilds and Dupre may be thinking that the gargoyles were the ones that did that, only for shamino correcting him because he knows by just looking at their wounds that it wasn’t gargoyles. All of this I think should be very brief and using the overhead dialogue instead of the normal one.

    Or even some guards torturing a wingless gargoyle and you may have the choice to help them or help the gargoyle. If you help the gargoyle maybe he flees or maybe he attacks. I don’t know but I think it shouldn’t be clear that they are good at the begining, but at the same time it should be clear that it’s war and that probably there are situations like this in both sides. Neither gargoyles are really that bad nor humans are that good either.

    I also agree with wtf regarding more gargoyle encounters. Even an encounter in which you can see a gargoyle drinking some strange bottle (silver serpent venom) would be nice 🙂

    I would also stay away of foreshadowing things from future Ultimas. So, no Guardian references. The only reference I would probably do, would be finding a map of the gargoyle lands that looks like the ones in Ultima Online (which also includes the territory you are exploring). Of course you won’t be able to explore the palces the map show, but that would make it seem like the gargoyle world was bigger back then.

    -NPC’s with interesting routines (e.g. dropping plates, serving food, making swords, …) and maybe new ones
    -The return of tangle vines though it may be too much work
