The Dark Unknown: Savegames Implemented

darkunknown-foes

Goldenflame Dragon spent some time last week working on implementing savegames in The Dark Unknown:

I wanted to wait and not say anything until I was done, but at this point that’ll probably be a few more days and I didn’t want to go that long without any updates, but… you can almost save your game, now. All I need to do is finish making the save object for the PC itself –everything else is taken care of.

Then, of course, I will need to write the code to _load_ the game. Soon! It’s very exciting. Once that happens, I’ll be able to make the character creation system!

And as of a couple of days ago, savegames are officially a thing:

Save game created. Now I start working on loading it.

This is good! By the time we next get a demo of The Dark Unknown, we should be able to save our progress and load it again later! Always helpful when exploring a large world filled with all manner of enemies and monsters.

Note that I didn’t say I had finished loading yet. 😉 Working on that right now in another window, in fact. My hope is to offer both an in-browser save but also let you export your save so you can copy/paste it, whether to another computer or just because you’re paranoid about the browser clearing its cookies/localstorage.
