XP4T-BEST-PC-RPG-80s

X4PT is running a poll to determine their readership’s thoughts as to the best PC RPGs of the 1980s. And while it’s not as egregious as the NeoGAF thing, it’s still baffling how both Pool of Radiance and Wasteland have pulled ahead of Ultima 4 in the voting.

Kids these days.

I think this post may have caused itself to be in need of an update.

Not until Pool of Radiance is vanquished!!!!

Heh well, that’s probably not going to happen. You’re talking about the granddaddy of all Dungeons & Dragons CRPGs. With 5 games to vote for, it’s sure to appear in a lot of people’s selections, even if it’s not their favorite game of them all.

P.S. I can agree with U4 being below those games, but U5 deserves a top spot.

All things considered, I would tend to agree. But U5 always comes up short to U4 because…it’s U4, I guess. Garriott’s favourite, and the origin of so many conventions still in use in Western RPGs…hard to compete with that.

Unless, yeah, you’re Pool of Bloody Radiance.
