Beautiful Britannia: New Year’s Update

The shrine

Firstknight left a comment on the Beautiful Britannia project entry yesterday, partly to let us know that the project is still alive, and partly to give us an update — at the dawn of a new year, fittingly — as to what he has been working on:

Hi Folks,

Looks like a new year has started, so time for an update.

Made some nice progress here and there (better Tools, new and good looking textures, a larger worldmap), but nothing is in a state to show up actually.

Just be a little more patient (I know i’ve stressed this to much already), as far as I can forsee it, April or May will be good months for showing flashy new screens.

And there is a good chance that you will be astonished greatly then…

I, for one, am looking forward to seeing something new from this project. What Firstknight has been able to do in terms of editing — and expanding! — the world in Ultima 9 has been nothing short of astounding already; can he find a new way to knock our socks off in the months ahead?

    Sounds exciting. 😀

Does anyone if there is a way to make Ultima 9 run in 4K resolution. It crashes every time I start the game after changing the resolution in the config file.

I have no idea, but from your experience, it doesn’t look likely.

I found a solution: Using the nGlide wrapper and using Glide as the renderer in the game works. You have to set the resolution in the game to 640×480 and the resolution of the nGlide wrapper to 3840×2160. The game then starts in 4k resolution. Using D3D as the renderer crashes the game.
