Ananias Roguelike: Version 1.51 Released; Big Graphics and UI Changes!

The game development machine known as Slashing Dragon has, hot on the heels of the version 1.50 release of Ananias Roguelike, released version 1.51 of the game; it can (as per usual) be played online or on an Android device right this moment!

The big change in this version of the game, as the screenshot above demonstrates, is a major shift in art style. Gone are the overhead tiles; replacing them are a new set of pseudo-3D wall tiles that add a sense of perspective to the game.

That’s not all, however. The character creation UI has been streamlined, and pet selection now occurs with character creation. A bunch of other tweaks and modifications have also been made; be sure to check Slash’s site for complete details.

Shit, before long it will have 45 degree isometric tiles like Ultima VII. I think that would be the tipping point where the awesomeness became undeniable.

Hehe thank you! although such a change is highly unlikely and I’m not a big fan of Ultima VI and VII perspectives… but yes, I’m planning on a isometric Ultima game…. stay tuned 🙂

I smell a new article being posted. New Ultima fan project announcement; you heard it first at the Codex. 🙂

I liked all the graphical styles in Ultima up until Ultima VIII and IX which just looked very un-Ultimalike. Up until VI the art style was symbolic, like something Charles Schulz or Pablo Picasso would do, where the goal was to convey the information regardless of whether or not the geometry was physically possible. From VI onward a literal presentation was used with the exception of the orthogonal/isometric perspective. Your style with Ananias is more like IV and V’s where you just see the front and top of the tiles. Anyway, I dig it.
