Extracting Ultima Forever Game Data

So just for shits and giggles, I decided to download the latest (relatively speaking) version of EasyMYP, the extraction utility for MYP files (this was Mythic’s proprietary game data storage format). Grab that here.

Then, I pointed it at the u4e.myp file still sitting on my hard drive from back during the days of the PC alpha. Albeit I’ve opened the game client since then, and the MYP file has been updated thereby (or so the game claims).

Anyhow, long story short, there was a successful file opening and the clicking of an Extract All feature. And now I have 2.4 GB of PNG images, TTF files, and various other game data sitting on my desktop. The PNGs, at least, look current enough…

And lo, what do I find after only a few moments of clicking through images? I’ve cropped it above; the full image is larger. But that is unmistakably a ship deck, a relic of the now-no-longer-to-be-implemented shipboard scenes that were planned for the game at one point.
