Ultima 8 Exile: Recovered Media at Dino’s Ultima Page
Anyone remember Ultima 8: Exile? It was a…relatively short-lived attempt to remake Ultima 8 in (yes) Neverwinter Nights. And in case you’re losing track (I know I am), yes, you’d be correct to think that there were a goodly number of attempts to remake Ultima 8 in Neverwinter Nights. For good reason, I suppose; the area-based design of Ultima 8 paired well with the area-based design of Neverwinter Nights; unlike other Ultimas, remaking Pagan in that engine wouldn’t mean sacrificing an open-world feel.
And let’s face it…NWN was a pretty easy engine to jump right in and start modding with.
Anyhow, Dino the Dark Dragon was on the Exile team, and he has some…biggish news about that long-cancelled project today:
With permission from Corvwyn, leader of the Ultima VIII – Exile remake that has been defunct since 2006, I have added a page to the Ultima 8 Guide containing various media that I have managed to recover from the remake. Included in this page are screenshots, character portraits, and a bunch of musical tracks that would have been played in-game once the mod was released.

And hey…how about those RPGDot watermarks, eh? Two trips down memory lane for the price of one.
Nice work, Dino. When that other NWN remake surfaced the other day I was thinking about exile too lol. It’s been a long time since I saw any of this stuff.
I think I still have somewhere some of the maps for NWN of the exile project, but they are certainly not at my current home. If I go back to my parents this month and I have time(which sadly I rarely do…) I can try to check if I have them stored on some old CD.

If you do…could someone ask Corwyn if he’d be okay with a project entry being set up here to host the maps/module for posterity?

Was looking for a link site to the old Exile website for Mr. Peabody and I found mention of Red Mage’s attempt to remake U8 called Ultima 8 Revisited in… yes NWN. He even released a demo. http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Modules.Detail&id=5174
You know, maybe all of these NWN-U8 remakes should have teamed up. 🙂
@Iceblade – yes, in fact I have a link to that NWVault page from my U8 Remakes page. The project had released two demos, but I can’t find them any more on Aiera/here and the download at Ultima: The Reconstruction seems to be corrupt.
