Max Breedon Needs Artists for Crypt Wizard

If you’re at all familiar with EUO, you’re familiar with Max Breedon’s style of game design, which tends toward the old-school and anachronistic. It should not surprise in the least, then, that his latest game, Crypt Wizard, has a similarly anachronistic look and feel to it. But whereas EUO arguably took a number of design cues from the earlier Ultima games, Breedon is taking things in a bit of a different direction with Crypt Wizard:

Crypt Wizard is a dungeon manager game which probably takes the most influence from Dungeon Keeper.

It is written in Java, so will work on pc, mac, linux. Android port is more than feasible. I’d like to sell it for about $7. As this is a commercial venture (even though I’m having a great time making it) I expect to pay anyone who works on my game.

As noted above, he’s willing to pay those who contribute to the game. So…what does he need?

Well…art:

Terrain

  • dirt
  • rough hewn wall
  • brick wall
  • claimed dungeon
  • rooms – note that I’m open to the idea that rooms could be a larger tile that is an entire structure, rather than just made up of a pattern of tiles

Chararcters

The main character is the Wizard, which is the only character the player controls.

Other characters include

  • zombie dwarf – your peons
  • skeleton army
  • other army units: vampire, ghost, lich etc
  • enemies: starting with rats, etc but could go anywhere from paladins to dragons

Items

  • gems, pillar, pylon, stone block, rock
  • weapons
  • barracks improvements

He is also looking for concept artists, and the Crypt Wizard development page he has set up includes numerous samples of the art styles he favours. He has also set up a Pinterest board (as has his UI artist buddy), whereat more sources of inspiration may be found.
