BioWare Mondays

I missed posting one of these last week, so this week’s post aggregates two weeks worth of news. That said, there wasn’t all that much news from Edmonton’s finest gaming studio or its various satellite offices. So this will be a short-ish update.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

I actually logged back in to SWTOR recently, in order to make sure that my character kept her name. Because, you see, BioWare is doing some pruning of inactive accounts, freeing up character names that have gone unused for a while. Or, rather, they will be so doing this month.

Also, Kotaku is right…SWTOR lets you do some pretty messed-up things. And you don’t even have to play as a Dark Side character!

Mass Effect

There’s no new news about the next entry in the Mass Effect series, but there is this retrospective of the first trilogy that may be worth a read. There’s also this retrospective, which labels the first Mass Effect trilogy as the “series of the generation”.

Oh, and N7 Day is coming up later this week; BioWare are hosting various multiplayer events and a charity auction to celebrate.

Victory Games, R.I.P

So this is a bit obscure, but at least the last time I heard anything about it, Victory Games was still under the BioWare label.

Emphasis should be placed on the “was”, however, because as of last week the studio has been closed, and the free-to-play Command & Conquer game it was working on has been cancelled.

Here’s hoping that Jon van Caneghem finds his way over to Limbic Entertainment.
