Ultima 7 Featured in Mac Life (Germany)

Dominus, from the Exult team, sent me this by email a few days ago:

ultima7-maclife

I have been lax in posting it, mostly because I’ve been trolling magazine stands trying to find an English edition of the September 2013 issue of Mac Life, the magazine in which Dominus spotted this feature. Alas, that search has proven fruitless for the time being, so here’s the image Dominus found.

Dominus explains that the text of the piece is mostly a short explanation of the game itself, which notes that there are many riddles for players to solve. Knowledge of English is also highlighted as being necessary to progress in the game, and the current price on GOG ($6, essentially) is noted.

What’s interesting about this, though, is that it was featured in the “Classic of the Month” section of the magazine’s chapter devoted to games, almost as if to imply that Ultima 7 is a classic Mac game. Which, of course, it isn’t…not really. Certainly, there was never an official, Mac-targeted release of Ultima 7 between 2001 and 2006, which is the era from which the iBook laptop in the article hails from.

And that screenshot? “Done with Exult,” says Dominus.

An article in german, very nice. Keep this up, WTFDragon, and I will stop by more often 😉

Well, the article further mentioned, that U7 was within the Top 100 games of all time in PC Gamer Magazine.

    “I’ve been trolling”

Never thought I’d hear those words come out of WtF’s mouth.

I meant it more in the “carefully and systematically search an area” sense of the word, rather than in the “be an arse on the Internet” sense.
