Starr Long to Speak At the Captivate Conference

Portalarium’s Starr Long, MMORPG veteran and executive producer for Shroud of the Avatar, has been announced as a speaker at the upcoming Captivate Conference, which takes place in Austin, Texas from October 6th to 8th of this year.

Starr Long has been making videogames for over twenty years. Starr was the Project Director of Ultima Online, which is now the longest running MMO in history and the game often credited with creating the Massively Online Game industry. In 2010, UO was inducted into the Online Game Developers Conference Hall of Fame, the first MMO to be so honored. In 2000 Starr co-founded Destination Games and later that year it was acquired by NCsoft. In 2008 Starr was named one of the Top 20 Most Influential People in the Massively Multiplayer Online Industry by Beckett Massive Online Gamer Magazine. In 2009 Starr Long joined The Walt Disney Company as an Executive Producer where he was in charge of 3 live virtual worlds, Disney Connected Learning, the Disney Parent App, and Club Penguin Mobile. The Disney Connected Learning mobile apps were ranked in the top 10 in iOS educational and kids games (4 of top 5). Starr currently is the Executive Producer at Portalarium working on Shroud of the Avatar with Richard Garriott.

Tickets for the conference are on sale, and Starr Long evidently tweeted out a discount code that will hopefully still be of use.

So, if you’ll be in Austin in early October, maybe consider buying some tickets to Captivate!
