Ultima Forever & The Eight Virtues: Compassion

Over on the Ultima Forever Facebook page, a new feature has been kicked off as of today, in which each of the Eight Virtues will be examined in some detail.

Good morrow my Lords and Ladies!

Starting this week we’ll be going through each of the eight virtues-
What better way to start off than with the Virtue of Compassion?

Compassion is associated with not one but TWO cities – both Britain and Cove. Britain is the primary city to follow Compassion, arguably due to it being the capital of Britannia. However, Cove is the city closest to the shrine and shares in its influence.

The symbol of compassion is a Heart, although occasionally it is represented by a Rose.

Its associated player class is the Bard.

The cavern against compassion is the Dungeon Despise.

The Mantra of Compassion is “Mu”

Return later this week for more information on how Compassion has influenced Britannia over the years!

As I noted in a comment on the post, Cove is actually the city dedicated to the principle of Love. Arguably, though, Compassion is the Virtue of Love; neither of the other Principles contributes to Compassion. So while there are some structural and philosophical differences, anything devoted to Love would necessarily have to be related to and demonstrative of Love’s most active expression, Compassion.

Of course, this gets rather more complex in Ultima Forever, as within its storyline Cove is also the City of Humility for the time being, since Magincia is still in ruins and has not yet been rebuilt into the city that would eventually come to embody said Virtue.
