The Dark Unknown: Light Source Issue Fixed

Goldenflame Dragon posted a rather triumphal update to the Ultima Dragons Facebook group recently, announcing that he had squashed a particularly bothersome bug in his Ultima-inspired browser-based game, The Dark Unknown:

Sweet! I fixed that problem with light sources shining on the backsides of walls. There’s an edge case that I still need to solve, but I’m still pretty content with the progress. Also the changes made might very slightly speed up LOS checking, but not nearly as noticeably as a change I have in mind that will be the next project after that edge case is solved.

He hasn’t yet pushed the update to the version of the game available online, although he should be doing so soon. He’s also wrestling with issues related to mobile browsers:

Mobile browsers, I don’t know. They weren’t really a concern when I started, ya know? In theory it should work fine on any browser with full JS capabilities and a keyboard, but I haven’t been checking to see. As I get deeper into things I may try to create an alternate input mechanism to make it work better on tablets, but that’s lower priority than making the rest of it work. Of course, by the time I finish it, computers may be obsolete and everything will be tablet based. 😛 Certainly HTML5 is threatening to obsolete some of my code, but so it goes.
