While in Austin to join the Wing Commander CIC team at GDC Online, Origin historian Pix was invited by Richard Garriott to tour the Portalarium offices. Pix’s report on the trip contains, among other things, a brief mention of the Ultimate RPG:

It was immediately apparent we were in the right place though as there was an entire wall of Ultimate RPG concept art on the near wall. I’m unfortunately not allowed to talk about this…

…as well as a number of other images and observations about the varied and different pieces of memorabilia decorating the walls (which had, just prior to the group’s arrival, been dolled up for Halloween). Here’s a taste:

This is the first section with the bottom left being some of Garriott’s pre Akalabeth games on paper tape + his written out code which never got punched in. The earliest Computerland Akalabeth case contains a version on cassette as Akalabeth actually predates the Apple II disk drive. He doesn’t think he sold any of these but wasn’t entirely certain so there may be one out there somewhere.
