Brian Fargo’s speech at Unite 2012, the developers forum put on by the creators of the Unity engine that powers Wasteland 2, was…well, let’s just say it was well-received:

The man hisself.

Fargo, at least, is happy to be free of the influence of a larger publisher. And while his circumstance is a bit unique (not everyone can Kickstart their indie game as successfully as inXile managed to!), one can also see his point.

Also: game footage. Just a bit, but even so…

That’s not really game footage, in the sense that it’s very unlikely the scene portrayed or anything resembling it will actually be in the game.
It’s more of an engine demonstration.

That game footage looks awesome! I like character animations, -just like- F1-F2. The music is also reminiscent and moody.

So far SO good! I was really hoping to see the characters make an area sensitive damage request. IE a groin shot!

It’s funny how he says he tried getting the Wasteland IP so instead he went forward with Fallout. From the development history I’ve read and seen, Fallout 1 was started in a few developers’ spare time. It was sort of a bastard project of the company. And when they showed Fargo how much work they’d done he then allowed people to work on it.

Either way, looks like Fargo and his team are right on the money so far!
