The Savage Empire Remake: Seeking People!

After battling through some severe computer-related issues, Scythifuge has managed to restore stability to his digital life, and he’s ready to resume work on his Exult-based remake of Savage Empire.

And he’d like some assistance bringing the project to fruition:

I am seeking people who can script in Exult Studio, artists who can finish up frames based on sprites that I provide (which really frees up my time so that I can work on more original sprites) & people who can study Exult Studio & help me implement things that I KNOW can happen based on logic & years of personal experience playing Ultima VII OVER & OVER again….

We have bamboo that must be chopped, harvested & kiln dried by the player so that he/she can fashion the bamboo tube into a primitive flintlock ONCE Dr. Rafkin teaches the player how to do it in the lab. Or, Dr. Rafkin will do it provided that he has the kiln dried tube & is in his lab. Either way works for me. We can even go as far as requiring other items such as copper & flint for this to work. Oh, & the bamboo must be able to regrow frame by frame over time.

On earth before leaving for the museum, the Avatar is at home. I have frames for a toilet, sink, bathtub, ceiling fan, stove, etc. that need to have interactive functionality to use. Since E.S. utilizes UVII’s files, I am taking the world interactivity to the extreme. I already have many animations with more to come as I finish, tweak or otherwise complete them with many more to go.

If you’ve any experience, Dragons and Dragonettes, of the kind he outlines, do consider dropping him a line. He drops by the site infrequently, but you can send him a private message, or leave a comment here to make yourself known. Or, if you’re on Facebook, hit up his “help wanted” post and make yourself known in the comments there!

Totally wish I had any skill in anything he needs.. But I suck lol

Glad to see at least a comment. Seems like ironically the community here has been drying up over these last few quarters. Don’t know if it’s due to the site change, news of a new Ultima IP or a general lack of time and hope amongst people struggling to merely subsist.

I have the skill, but not the time; my own efforts consume me. Anyone have any opinions on why it’s so hard to get help with an Ultima project these days, or even garner a comment? It’s been disenchanting me for some time now yet remains a mystery. WtF carries the torch and faithfully tears into the bedrock, but iron seems hard to find.

I wouldn’t say it’s dying, but yeah I’ve noticed there has been less comments since Aiera became The Ultima Codex.

I don;t think it’s as bad as you might think. There has actually been some life in the new and improved forums, and the UDIC Facebook page has been busier than ever, As well, the Ultima Facebook account’s 2 most viewed posts ever have both been in the last 2 weeks.

I’ve been going to a few more places lately, so Aiera hasn’t been getting as much attention. The Dragons Facebook page has a lot more activity, so I’ve been getting my Ultima fix there. This site has branched out a lot more as well… At the old Aiera I was interested in most things posted, but here I’m kinda having to sift through the parts I’m not really interested in.

A title for your remake is always beneficial. Just calling it the Savage Empire remake makes it sound like you just started the project and haven’t really done much work on the project or given it much thought. Not to say that you haven’t, that is just the impression that one can get.

Any ‘getting started’ guides out there on exult scripting? Is it mostly C-based or what? I’d be willing to take a look and see if it’s something I could get into.

I wish I could help but I lack the skills, I can’t program exult for shit and I can’t make art 🙁

Wish there was something I could do to help.
