The Serpent Isle Remake: Random Progress

Thepal has decided to start posting random progress and information notes to the website of his project, the The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion-based remake of Serpent Isle. His inaugural post in this new plan concerns progress he’s made building the Mountains of Freedom and Moonshade Catacombs.

I’ve recently re-made the Mountains of Freedom and Moonshade catacombs. I’ve started on Furnace now. As mentioned in my previous update, I’m not furnishing the locations really but am simply making it so they can be completed. The Mountains of Freedom for example have all the teleporters (which I unfortunately had to remake since they are some of the models I lost), the main NPCs, some moveable crates, and that is about it. The entire dungeon is mapped out however (one section is slightly different due to me increasing the size of the starting waiting area). So it is possible to arrive there, go through the dungeon (retrieving the Blackrock Sword), and get out the other side.

He’s posted a couple of screenshots of the two dungeons — high-level views showing the layout of each from a top-down perspective — and you can also check out a glimpse of the Mountains of Freedom above. It looks like he’s making good progress recovering from the recent data loss, and I for one am looking forward to combing the depths of these caverns in the near future!

I seem to be able to make fairly good progress as long as I stay away from the few areas that I really have a feeling of loss for. Those mostly being Sleeping Bull and the secret passage in Moonglow. Furnace as well, but I’ve decided just to attack that this week and get it done. Furnace was horrible… creating structures inside structures (buildings inside caves) always is. Not to mention its size. Luckily I never got around to Skullcrusher.

Glad to see you haven’t lost heart after the data loss. I’ve lost data on a Biblical scale (700+ page journal started when I was 18) and it haunts me still any time I think of it, so I empathize. Keep up the good work.
