Eight Virtues Seeks Co-Developer for Sanctimonia

I don’t post articles here often, but have come to an important point in the development of Sanctimonia at which I feel it is necessary to seek partnership with an equally-skilled soul to truly bring the game to life.

Prerequisites for the task include:

  • Practicable knowledge of general programming (GAMBAS and/or OpenGL experience preferred)
  • Innate ability to distill complex ideas into relatively simple (if unconventional) programming logic
  • Ability to discuss code and ideas in English via Skype or other methods of aural communication
  • A strong spirit of adventure, discovery and devilish desire to push the boundaries of the art of computer games without sacrificing what makes it so endearing in our fondest of memories

This will be a partnership with no financial risk but with potential financial rewards. Sanctimonia is a for-profit endeavor and will use a subscription model, “freemium” model, or a hybrid of the two. Gameplay however will always take precedence over profit motive and absolutely no compromises will be made under influence of profitability. It is a game in the truest sense and always will be.

I’m pleased to extend this invite here first, as over the years I’ve grown to love Aiera and all who frequent it. With any luck I won’t have to extend it elsewhere, but life, as always, is unpredictable.

I would be very interested in this, let me know when/how we could talk about it further!

Thy lies have brought thee low, false prophet. Thou hast not emailed me yet, and therefore thou art disqualified. Let me see ye not in ye or mine fields, for there may be only one, and it be I. Ye dog and byrds of foul spirit.

Excellent. Please send your qualifications and anything else you feel important to kevinfishburne AT eightvirtues DOT com. That goes for anyone else interested as well.

Some things to get you started could be:

Links to bios or anything else about you personally or professionally
    Years programming and languages
OpenGL or other graphics API experience
What excites you the most about games you play
What ideas about creating games excite you the most

I would put my hand up, but my schedule tends to be all over the place. I’ll work for a solid week, then not have time for a month. I don’t think you’ll have any problems finding someone anyway.

Believe it or not, depending on your skillset that could be adequate. I work on the game directly about 2 – 4 hours every other day. I probably spend the same amount of time doing indirect work such as research, creative brainstorming and solving logic issues simply by reasoning through them in my head.

While much of the game’s basic infrastructure is already in place and just requires debugging and polish, at times I find myself a little overwhelmed and frustratingly have no one to turn to. I don’t have any “programming friends” I can just call up to help me work through an algorithm or look at some code to see why it’s not working. I have no real sounding board off which I can reflect ideas. I’m also too paranoid at this point to just post the source code with companies like Zynga lurking about and that limits my “anonymous online help” options.

Basically I’m looking for trust, seriousness (as in giving a damn), intelligence and problem-solving capability, creativity and real excitement about the project. Since most of the problem solving involves programming and programming logic, familiarity with at least one programming language is also required. While it might sound like I’m merely looking for an assistant, the right individual could easily be as much a part of the project as myself in shaping the final game.

In any case, I’ll keep everyone posted on any news in this regard.
