CD Projekt Sundays

More of the same from the plucky Polish developers this week: the gaming media is still very much abuzz about the Enhanced Edition of The Witcher 2. CD Projekt Red have released a new developer’s diary detailing many of the changes that the Enhanced Edition introduces to the game. And the Enhanced Edition continues to review well, for the most part.

CD Projekt also spoke to GameInformer about issues with adapting the game to the Xbox 360, admitting (in the course of the interview) that they gave absolutely no consideration as to whether console RPG players would be at ease with how easily Geralt can be killed in the game.

In other words, The Witcher 2 wasn’t watered down for the Xbox. If some “infantile” (CD Projekt’s word choice, not mine!) console gamers don’t like the difficulty…that’s their tough luck.

The only other noteworthy piece of news that turned up this week was this story about the two-way nature of respect. CD Projekt Red shows its fans no small amount of respect, and many of its fans show them respect in turn, as illustrated by the very harsh treatment that a user on the /v/ board at 4chan (who, let’s face it, don’t exactly tend to take an antagonistic view toward software piracy) received after admitting to pirating The Witcher 2.

Oh, and Stragegy Informer has posted a comparison of Risen 2 and The Witcher 2, evaluating which is best (according to them) in various categories. The Witcher 2 wins in the combat category (among others), but loses most notably in the story category.

I like how they want to pretend consoles had no influence over The Witcher 2 even though the PC version already had an user interface that felt incredibly consolish and was much more at ease with a 360 Controller than with a mouse/keyboard.

As for the difficulty it’s not like The Witcher or its sequel are THAT difficult to begin with (they’re certainly no Gothic) or that all consoles games can be completed with a hand tied in the back.

But heh, I get what they’re doing – trolling consoles is a good way to keep the faithfullness of PC gamers 😛
