Zeph's Ultima Textures for Minecraft Updated…Again!

Zeph didn’t update them all that long ago, but he sent me another email this morning announcing that in the wake of the latest Minecraft update, he has produced an updated version of his Ultima-inspired texture pack for the smash hit indie game. This time around, he has added textures to some new blocks that were introduced in the latest version of Minecraft, and also added graphics for some things he hadn’t yet bothered with in previous releases (e.g. wood).

Oh, and he put together a new logo:

I want this on my Android device!

And also a new Mojang logo, because apparently that is possible too. Ultima fans will appreciate:

LOL, as we say on the Internet.

You can, of course, download the updated texture pack from its project entry.

In the middle of sorting my texture pack for the latest release, but considering abandoning the project. I don’t play Minecraft as much as I used to, so I end up putting more hours into updating the texture pack than I do playing!

Since Zeph’s pack is so good, there’s probably not much need for multiple Ultima-themed texture packs, are there? I dunno. I’m very much in two minds whether to continue with it or not.

I vote for a merger. Would be a shame to have another project leave this world for the Orphanage with nothing left behind but broken dreams. 🙂 Asset donation to another project is a worthy legacy, and you could even continue to contribute if you felt the urge.

  3. Personally I think options are good. People like to have a selection. Having only one texture pack would be like walking into a grocery and finding the shelves stocked with nothing but blue cheese dressing. It might be some people’s preference, but it’s not to everyone’s taste. Variety is good.
That said, you wouldn’t be the first to put a project on hold, perhaps indefinitely, because Minecraft has lost it’s luster. I didn’t update mine for the longest time because I was involved with other games *cough*SkyrimReckoning*cough* and Minecraft just lost it’s appeal to me. Honestly, although I love it, it’s not quite all we were promised it would be. (I DEMAND SEA LIFE) I got into it again and decided an update was over due. You may do the same, or you may not. Really up to you.
I was trying to talk a friend of mine into starting a blog a while ago. (She’s into painting fingernails with outlandishly beautiful designs. No stranger than my hobby, really) And her response was “Who would even want to read about it?” So I told her the same thing I’ll tell you. Every time I update my texture pack, I get between 20-40 downloads (at least on my account, don’t know about people who DL it from here) If I were running a business, I’d have to close. I don’t do it because other people may or may not enjoy it, I do it because I do. And if a few other people do too, all the better. The point to remember is that we do this for fun. If you enjoy doing it, then continue, if not, then stop. Your hobbies should be fun. The minute they become a chore, it’s time to move on, but it’s your enjoyment that matters.

Oh, and for the record, I prefer ranch.

      This is unrelated, but…

…Pinterest. She should get a Pinterest account.

I have to agree with that, Zeph, though I understand where Andy’s coming from. One of my main goals with my ancient, dead U5TES3 mod was to have lush vegetation everywhere. When I saw screenshots of the upcoming Oblivion the gas shot right out of my balloon. It was a difficult, time-consuming project to begin with and that pushed me over the edge realizing I didn’t have the capacity to complete it and attain my goals. While these are completely different circumstances, the feeling strikes me as similar.

If you’re not getting paid, or don’t expect to be paid, then it’s purely for love and glory. And ranch is hard to compete with, although blue cheese is great too.

Well, at the moment I’m keeping with it (recently sent Ken an email with the new version).

At least the new updates aren’t coming as quickly as they used to, so I don’t need to update the pack so often.

Although on the flip side of that, with less updates it feels like the game isn’t progressing as quickly as I’d like (check out the forum suggestions, there’s some absolutely fantastic stuff there which I’d love to see: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum/1-suggestions/ )

  6. I wasn’t aware of that one. I’ll suggest it to her. She’s still being stubborn. =P

Pinterest is mostly for the ladies anyway, it seems. Especially the artsy/crafty kind.

That said, I’ve brought Ultima even to that corner of the Internet, so I can toss her an invite if she doesn’t want to wait for one by applying.
