The Witcher 2

The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition Trailer!

Actually, it might also be the introductory movie for, at least, the Xbox 360 version of the game:

Assassination! Ice! Boats!

The Enhanced Edition will add new features to the game, including a system of tunnels and a forested area around Loc Muine, which I would presume is a key location within the game. New characters, new quests, and new enemies round out the update, and the release will also be accompanied by a digital map, soundtrack collection, game guide, and manual.

There will also be a “Dark Edition” of the Enhanced Edition…

…which is either just plain confusing or too meta by half. I can’t decide.

Basically, it’s a collector’s edition of the thing, boxed rather than digital. Included will be an art book, a world map, a quest handbook, the game’s soundtrack and a “making of” DVD, as well as a few other trinkets and things.

So, is The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 any good?

GameBanshee (if you can get their site to load for you) links to a pair of previews for the Xbox 360 version of the game, from 1UP and Official Xbox Magazine.

The consensus seems to be yes, the game is good on console. Very good, in fact.

The Witcher 2 Developer Diary Zero: The Beginning

Actually, this first in what will presumably be a series of dev diary videos, concerns The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition rather specifically:

How DO you adapt a game for Xbox 360?

I’m glad of this – will give me another reason to put off playing the game, at least until April. I really do want to play it, but I’ve too many distractions and my backlog is huge.

I’m also glad that the EE retail edition isn’t quite as feature packed as the original Premium Edition… makes me feel my early investment was worthwhile beyond simply supporting CD Projekt! Will be happy to get the updated digital goodies though.

Like DC, this is in my backlog of games to play. I probably won’t get to it for a few months at least. I guess it is a good sign that they keep updating it. Should be extra awesome when I get to it.

Without commenting on the series at all or gameplay, that was one of the best videos ever demonstrating why we play RPGs (the first one). Imagination. Doing what you want to do. Realistic reactions from the world. Pen and paper Dungeons & Dragons was like that.

Imagine one of the projects here simulating freeze, fire, poison and force field winds and walls as spells like in IV and V. This video seems rooted in the old way of doing RPGs (spoken/paper) and the new way of having insanely awesome story through execution of gameplay events. If the Witcher game has the same variables it will be awesome.

“Avatar! … You have gone too far. Your Will and your Legacy will be… DESTROYED!!! HAHAHAHAHA And know that Britannia has entered into a new age of enlightenment. I multiply your light source by -1 and it becomes DARKNESS! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA”

The Avatar should have started singing this song:

and taken control of the government by gaining the people’s consent and approval after chiefly contributing his/her time to the alleviation of their great suffering. If the suffering in Pagan was inevitable and no mortal could change things, even the Avatar would have to come to terms with his/her own impotence and take the easy way out.

Oh, Poland. May your standard of living never rise, so we can continue to get hardcore games that sell “only” 2 million copies. 😀

I recommend you to read the books about Witcher (BTW, in original language`s version Geralt called “Wiedzmin”(read it Ved-mean)) Original`s plot better than game`s script anyway. Few of them were published in English though, but translation will be finished in near future (I think). And the Tv series was mediocre at best, but main actor was some kind of good. Better than Conan in Conan series, for example. And “Witcher the movie” was just trimmed down tv series, so ignore it anyway. Also the first (later canceled) game about Witcher was sort of Ultima IX but it is another story
