Ultima 6 Technical Documents

To celebrate the release of Ultima 6 on Good Old Games today, it seems fitting revisit a set of internal documents from Origin Systems that discuss the conversation syntax of the game and its technical implementation, the object design of the game, and the in-house map editor that Origin developers used to construct the Ultima 6 game world.

These come to us courtesy of former Origin programmer Bill Randolph, and thanks to the tireless efforts of Joe Garrity of the Origin Muesum.

These links are broken – any chance this can get re-uploaded?

Yup, I can get them back up this week.

Brilliant thanks a lot. FYI the ultima 7 tech docs are also missing…

Ah, yeah, I see I meant to move those over to the Codex, and then never did (go me!). This will take a bit longer, as I’ve got to unearth the images as well, but I’ll work on getting the documents moved over as quickly as possible.

Thanks! I can’t wait to check them out – both U6 and U7. My first ever view of Ultima 6 was some review in a magazine which actually showed a screenshot of their world editor. I mistakenly thought that THAT’S what the game’s all about – creating your own world. When my mom bought it for me I was confused a bit but fell in love anyway. I can’t find that magazine review anywhere but I hope this has some more info. Cheers.

Hey, sorry to harass you but did you have a chance to find these yet?

You know what? Send me an email at: ultimacodex {a} gmail.com; I can send you the PDFs for both these and the U7 documents.

Hey thanks, I sent it last night…

      • WtF Dragon says:

Yup! Took a while to unearth everything.
