Forgotten World: Music Composer Needed! (Update: No More Submissions, Please!)

Iceblade included this at the end of his news about the pending completion of the book editor, but I’m posting it in a separate article because it’s important and worth highlighting.

The Forgotten World team are looking for a music composer, and are taking submissions of sample work at the team email address. If you’ve some musical talent, Dragons and Dragonettes, and would like to see some new tracks added the score of Ultima 9…put your best work forward and drop the Forgotten World team an email!

Update: The team is not accepting any more submissions right now, having become overwhelmed by those they have received in the last…what?…12 hours?

I’m a pretty shitty composer as far as music goes, but would love to contribute some songs to the project. Over the last few nights I put together the first song I’ve done in a while. I used LMMS to compose it, and it seems to not have a MIDI export option. Here’s the song, which if you want to use I’ll grant an MIT-style license so you can use it as you please.

I put it up here in FLAC:

It’s obviously unfinished, but not bad for a second night’s work. Let me know what you think or if it’s even usable at all.

My inspiration was as always Final Fantasy (Nobuo) and Ultima ditties.

Interesting theme. I’ll hold off on making any decisions to allow others to ‘audition’ but I do like what I hear.

Cool. It’s uber primitive, I was just messing around, so I know that not having it in MIDI where it can be changed is a near instant “No”. I need to figure out how to export it.

Thanks for the compliment though. 🙂

I guess it can’t export as wav files?

  5. Sanctimonia says:

It can. It’s weird, actually. LMMS can export as WAV or OGG, and save as it’s own format or FL Studio format. It can import MIDI, but not export. LMMS is the bastard child of functionality as far as I’m concerned. A lot of promise and a lot of bugs. Really irritating…

Do you want it in WAV for some reason? I transcoded it from WAV to FLAC. I’ll put the original WAV up in the directory.

It’s there now, under http://www.eightvirtues.com/sanctimonia/music in “Strange World.wav”.

The reason I was speaking of rejection was because a MIDI file would allow for editing. WAV and FLAC are just “take it or leave it” types. I feel bad about it not being finished, so would want you to have it in an editable format. I could take your input and modify it though.

Also, while Chris Waugh composed many of the songs for my game, I did two of them. You can use those as well with an unlimited license (just you, not everyone). My songs are “Title” and “Funeral”, at the same link as above.

  8. Hi there. I`m music composer. We would be happy I helped you. I invite you to my portfolio and audio department. I have a lot of experience. I’ve already written many songs for games, movies, commercials, etc., etc.

Okay no more applicants. We already have 3 that I need to think over.

I wonder if I would have had this much luck if I had asked for a 3D modeler.

      Funny joke, Iceblade.

3D modelers seem to be hard to come by. Not that I can’t (or won’t) put up a “help wanted” post for that position — just say the word. But don’t expect many nibbles.

Just checked out Michal’s web site. Man, I suck. FYI Iceblade, I could submit a few tracks but couldn’t be a full-time composer. I have way too much going on right now for that.

I sure am busy. (IE another post at the website)
