Thanks For Supporting Aiera!

Obviously, there are a few ads that grace Aiera’s otherwise pristine template. Nobody has ever really complained about them, a fact for which I am glad, and I’ve tried to keep them as topical and relevant as possible over the last couple of years. That’s why I’ve primarily focused on Amazon advertising, and then specifically advertising focused on video games and other software. This is, after all, a gaming site.

The ad in the header is a particularly keen example of this; it’s based on a search for any video game pertaining to the keyword ‘Ultima’, and occasionally rotates some pretty interesting stuff through its 468 pixel-wide span. (I noticed the Ultima Underworld 1 & 2 collection the other day, for example.)

Do the ads do much, in terms of helping to support the site? Well…sometimes. There are months where things happen, and months where things don’t; I wouldn’t be able to live off of the results, at any rate. But every little bit helps to support the site, which is why I wanted to take a moment to thank whoever purchased a copy of [amazonify]B002DHLVII::text::::Windows 7[/amazonify] via an Amazon link from Aiera, and the person or people who purchased [amazonify]B003BU77P2::text::::ArcaniA: Gothic 4[/amazonify] and [amazonify]B002SU4QG4::text::::Fallout: New Vegas[/amazonify] as well. I get a bit of commission off of all such sales, and every little bit of it gets diverted into helping offset the costs of running the site.

So thanks, whoever you all were. You’ve helped, in your own way, to keep the site afloat! And, best of all, you got a pretty sweet OR and/or a great game (or two) out of the deal!

Funny that you get to see what got purchased following the ads…
I noticed that they are ultima themed. Does just clicking on them help or does it need longer stay on the amazon page?

Dominus: Amazon is straight-up commission-based. If you click the Amazon link and buy something before navigating away again, I get 4% (and up to 8% under certain conditions). I think the information that identifies me as the affiliate carries through even if you navigate to other departments on the site, and if you do any searching.

The reports that Amazon generates then list what items people bought (though not who bought them). Which makes sense, if you think about it…since I’m getting a commission, it helps to know what on.

A thought, submitted for general consideration: If any of you Dragons and Dragonettes plan — at any point in time — to buy something via Amazon.com, consider starting the process by clicking on an Amazon ad here. You won’t wind up paying more for the item(s) you eventually buy, and you’ll support your favourite Ultima site in the process. Win-win!

And otherwise: feel free to ignore the ads.

Amazon.COM just doesn’t cut it for me. When I buy something from Amazon, I need to use the .de store. I’ll see whether there is an easy way to switch country in site, next time I buy something.

Same for me, I use mostly amazon.fr, any ideas?

I don’t know if it works for regional portals; I think each has it’s own affiliate program and tracks sales separately.

Basically, if you can get to the regional portal of your choosing by starting with an Amazon.com link here, great. If you can’t, don’t worry about it. Either way, don’t bother too much with it. Shop normally; if it works, it works.

Addendum: If you click an Amazon link here, scroll down to the bottom of the page; there should be some quick links to various regional portals, Germany & France included.

I don’t know if that would work (in the sense that Amazon would count any resultant sales as something I’d earn commission on)…but if anyone wants to try, that’s the only method that seems to be available.

    Advertising does work!

And if it keeps this website going, then I’m all the more grateful to it.

If people can buy anything to help the site via the banner ad, you might end up hearing about all sorts of purchases!

That’s basically the idea. Not everyone shops through Amazon, of course…but if anyone is of a mind to do so, stopping by here first and arriving there via a banner link still lets them shop, and helps support the site in the progress.
