Nightly Open Thread…Ides of March Edition

Well, that would at least explain the Reapers

BioWare’s final(?) DLC package for Mass Effect 2 was teased on the game’s Facebook page yesterday, with a single screenshot captioned with the word “Arrived”. The DLC’s name, Arrival, was hinted at in the PS3 version of the game late last month, and what little evidence has been found suggests that it probably concerns itself with the Reapers.

Which, as I say, would certainly explain how the damn things end up razing Earth in Mass Effect 3. Which, by the way, can’t get here soon enough.

Bon Jovi thinks that Apple has killed the magical experience of buying records…

…and “of taking your allowance money and making a decision based on the jacket, not knowing what the record sounded like, and looking at a couple of still pictures and imagining it.” Which, granted, is probably all that Bon Jovi had going for him during his heyday. (I know that I, at least, can count on one finger the number of Bon Jovi tracks I’d actually be willing to pay money for.)

Cardreaders…there’s an (Android) app for that!

I can’t put it better than this: “Caribou is an Android-based application written by security researcher Ian Robertson as a proof-of-concept demonstration of the incredibly poor security controls in use on widely popular cardkey door control systems.”

Frightening...and amusing!

Most social/casual gamers are middle-aged and female

Your random factoid for the evening. One wonders if this factors into Richard Garriott’s plans for a certain future Portalarium game and, if so, what that might mean for the shape and style of New Britannia?

Tonight’s post brought to you by sarcasm:

Never leave home without it.

That seems like a somewhat hostile choice of phrases to put up on a church sign board.

    I approve.

Security in things like those cardkey readers is a joke. Ive known people whove gotten into those things swiping completely unrelated cards. I know one guy who told me he used to be able to get into one at his work using his Air Miles card.

The video reminds me of the multitools from Deus Ex so much.
