xu4: iPhone video and tileset questions

Darren, from the xu4 project, wrote with two ends in mind this evening. First, he wanted to draw my attention — and, by extension, the attention of all you Dragons and Dragonettes — to a second video of xu4 running natively on iOS:

But you cannot hit back!

What’s important about this is that it actually demonstrates gameplay, not just map traversal (although, as the caption notes, you can’t yet attack monsters). So that’s really cool…Ultima 4 as a native iPhone app is coming, bit by bit.

There is also this:

Sexy tiles!

Darren is wondering if anyone knows who is the author of this tileset? He’s rather interested in bundling it with future builds of xu4, and wants to get proper permission to do so.

  1. It’s great to have all these great nostalgic games making a huge comeback in an industry dominated by intense graphics! There’s just something about the storytelling.

You do a great job updating this site! Keep up the great work!

It is, for sure, and in a way there’s the mobile market to thank for that…these old games play GREAT on a smartphone screen.

(Thanks, by the way. I try.)

(*sigh*) Graphics of first Ultimas are so pixelated so i`ll better play it on my watch screen rather on smartphone. But i have a problem, my watch is analog 😉
