New Gallery: OSI Rejection Letter

Courtesy of Kevin Fishburne (the developer behind Sanctimonia), Ultima Aiera is pleased to present this letter — on Origin Systems letterhead — signed by Richard “Lord British” Garriott himself. It is a rejection letter, in which Lord British turns down a request to tour the OSI offices…but does so in a way that, while short, is much more warm than curt.

As Kevin explains: “My dad had written OSI about getting me a tour of the facility, as I was programming games and loved the Ultima series. Sadly the request was denied, but at least I got this letter signed by LB.”

It’s pretty cool…check thou it out!

  1. This is one of the few times that getting refused is actually quite cool.

What’s really cool is that after all the crap I’ve lost to the abyss over the years, I hadn’t lost that letter. Seems one of life’s hardest lessons is just how easy it is to lose things you love, whatever they might be. Where’s my Bard’s Tale? My Might & Magic? My Adventure Construction Set? All my old game projects from when I was a teenager? Dammit!

“check thou it out” translates to “check you it out”

I think you’re after “thou wilt check it out”, or something

  4. Guess that’s what eBay is for, though at some point I imagine it would be tough to find things there even.

As far as the Early Modern English goes, maybe, “Check ye it out” or “Check it out, ye.” Here’s some interesting stuff:
