Arx Fatalis GL…that didn't really take long

The game’s source code has been freely available for less than a week, and already there is an effort underway to port the game to OpenGL, and to clean up the Win32 types used in its codebase.

This is good for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that it would enable Arx to be ported to Linux, Mac…and probably a goodly number of other platforms as well. (Realistically, the game would probably run reasonably well on most modern Android or iOS-powered smartphones.)

The project is just getting underway (it was announced on the 16th) and is still looking for volunteers and advice. If that sounds relevant to your interests, good Dragons and Dragonettes, do get in touch with the gent who is heading up the project (one Leon by name). He can be reached at: vleon1 [at-sign-thingy] gmail.com.

I wanna it for PSP 🙂 Bethesda canceled TES PSP, which reminded a lot of AF. But i know, that possibility of Arx Fatalis for PSP is near impossible… At least i can launch three games of King`s Field series, which japanese analog of UU.

Awesome… From the number of posts in the freegamedev forum it looks like a lot of people are interested in making it cross-platform. One guy is even talking about redoing the textures so they can be distributed. Hopefully if the IP holders of Arx see the effort they’ll be kind enough to release the game data/assets under an open license.

Aye, it’s really cool to see that much support for it.

For what it’s worth, I dropped the guy an email with an offer for a subdomain and WordPress install. I probably can’t help him for coding, but it’s still something.
