Ultima V for iPad: Updates and "How Tos"

[singlepic id=323 w=240 h=320 float=center]

The DOSPad interface is delightfully retro, no?

Donn dropped me a short email to let me know that his project to get Ultima 5 working on the Apple iPad is progressing nicely. Not only did he drop this snazzy new screenshot on his site a while back:

…he also posted three separate tutorials which will help current iPad owners get Ultima 5 running on their Apple tablets. First up is how to jailbreak an iPad, followed by How to install DOSPad.

And after that? Journey thyself onward to how to play Ultima 5. The process of installing Ultima 5 in DOSPad is a tad complex, as it involves downloading a ZIP archive of the game’s files. Donn is willing to host for download any such ZIP archives that are sent to him, which he will take as proof that the sender owns the game.

Yep, Dospad does rock. Still needs to be played in fullscreen. Vertical is a hassle and too small a screen. Lets hope the they release customised key design so you can assign Ultima keys in full screen 🙂

When you have jailbroken your ipad (which you need to be able to install dospad), you don’t need to download a zip, you can just put the files onto the device.
Not to mention that dospad registers in a way with itunes, that you canjust drag’n’drop files onto the dospad icon in itunes… These should be in the folder mounted as d:

You can also sftp to you iPad and upload the games too. Much easier I think and faster. 😉

Cool, good to know! Lacking an iPad or a jailbreakable iPhone (I’m running a “new bootrom” 3GS with iOS 4.2) I haven’t had any opportunity to mess with DOSpad, so I know very little about what it’s capable of.
