Lord and soon-to-be-Lady British

I just noticed, via Facebook, that Lord British has announced his engagement to his girlfriend of…well, I don’t actually know how long they’ve been going out. But that’s not really important. Ultima creator Richard Garriott is now, officially, engaged to his girlfriend Laetitia Pichot de Cayeux; there will very soon be a Lady British, Dragons and Dragonettes.

I hope I speak on behalf of a large portion of the Ultima fan community when I say to the happy couple: “congratulations to you both, and may you enjoy many happy years together in your married life.”

And as I wrote previously: Marriage is more than just a legal arrangement; at its core, it has a Spiritual quality that sanctifies and blesses the married couple, making their union into something more magnificent than just the sum of two people. Sacrifice is necessary in marriage, and the need for Honor and Honesty are absolute. Though marriage and the intimacy of a couple is not a war or a battle of wills, marriage should be approached and committed to with Valor, a strength of mind and soul that enables one to encounter everything with firm resolve. Marriage should inspire Compassion, make one thirst to both seek Justice for one’s spouse and be in all things Just with her. Marriage requires both spouses to act, toward each other, with Humility.

There must be, in other words, Truth, Courage, and Love in marriage, without question. Let us all hope, then, that Lord and Lady British’s union will be strong in the Virtues!

It just gives one pause to wonder what the Ultimas might have been like had there been a Lady British all along. Oh, the subquests…

The important question is she an Ultima fan?

  3. I guess Sherry found better cheese elsewhere. A shame, as she was cute in Ultima VI.

If Laetitia had a guest appearance in Ultima X I think we’d all want portraits and cut-scenes, little mouse or otherwise.

All jests aside, I’m happy to hear that Garriott has found a mate, and hope it brings he and Laetitia much happiness.

I always thought he was so eccentric, intelligent and probing that it’d be difficult for anyone to share that with him for any period of time without having irreconcilable differences. Many strong personalities are like that, even amongst friends.

I hope he’s found a good mate, as I hope for all of us here on Aiera (I’m married, 2 year anniversary this year – reminds me of Crusader – kidding…).

Congratulations to Lord and Lady British, long may they reign!

Maybe she will inspire him to reboot the Ultima franchise! I’d love to see Richard collaborate again with Warren Spektor to work on a new Ultima game.

Hi, HellRazor, and welcome to the site. I…don’t think I’ve seen you around here before.

To address your comment directly: it’s pretty to think so, but at present it couldn’t happen, unless Garriott and Spector somehow managed to pool their resources and buy the Ultima IP back from EA.

    Which…isn’t likely to happen.

That said, if in fact you are new here, take a look over some of the recent posts, and in particular look for anything pertaining to BioWare Mythic. The Ultima franchise…is not quite as dead as it looks, let’s just say.

Perhaps someone who is a big ultima fan and a friend of his fiance can persuade her to get Lord British to make another Ultima or a game just like it….maybe buy Ultima back!

  7. WtF Dragon says:

If only it were so easy. Frankly, I doubt EA would be willing to sell the franchise…not with the various plans and efforts Mythic has underway pertaining to the franchise.

  8. ODON says:

Mes félicitations à tous les deux et en particulier à ma chère cousine, Laetitia, toujours aussi ravissante!

  9. Sanctimonia says:

According to Google in English that means, “My congratulations to them both and especially to my dear cousin, Laetitia, still lovely!”
