Return to the Serpent Isle

Sergorn Dragon has just re-launched a project idea he’s had for a few years now: Return to the Serpent Isle.

Using the Neverwinter Nights 2 engine, this project is not a remake, but rather a continuation — a brand new Ultima adventure set in a familiar world: the Serpent Isle.

The site just “went live” on the ‘tubes this morning, Dragons. Although, in the interests of full disclosure, I know that because I helped design the thing, and will be involved with the project in a production and world-building role.

Which reminds me: we’re looking for people! Be sure to check out the Recruitment page for details!

Wish I could help, but sadly I don’t have the time right now (maybe in the not so distant future…).

One little piece of advice. Everyone seems to forget Sunrise island when they create the maps for UO and all that. I hope you people remember that island is at the north side. Just because in game does not appear does not mean it’s not there (it actually appears in the right portion of the map, but it’s map is more like the dream world than a normal island).

I obviously won’t go into details, but we haven’t forgotten about Sunrise Island and I plan to have it as an actual island this time (and separate from the Ice Dragon one) and not just some underground temple.

  3. Natreg says:

Well’ it’s definitely not Ice Dragon island 🙂

I told this mostly because I have seen this as a common error by other developers.

Ultima Legacy UO map didn’t have it, the new uo reamke of serpent isle doesn’t have it either, and that “google maps” map of Serpent Isle confuses it with the Ice Dragon Lair.

The Serpent Isle Cluebook clrearly diferentiates both of those islands.

The cluebook says about Sunrise Island:

“Sunrise Isle is a mystical place located on an island off the far northern coast. I understand that the entire mountain top is ringed with walls. It has been thought by all to be unreachable, but my research has shown that it can be entered through the Dark Path.”

Of course the Shrine is at the top of the mountain (it’s not underground).
This is also stated in the cluebook:

“I saw a place located on a mountain surrounded by water. It was a place of great power and mystery. On this mountain I saw a shrine to each of the Ophidians’ orders, as well as a beatiful building that I am sure was the Great Shrine of Balance. This leads me to believe it was the legendary Sunrise Isle I saw.”

If you don’t have the cluebook I can send it to you.

I have a scan of the cluebook, not very good quality but good enough.

The mistake about Sunrise Island is understandable though, the original game never made its location clear and the Ice Dragon was right were Sunrise is supposed to be on the map – I remember quite a few people got confused for the ending, basically heading to the Ice Dragon’s Isle when Xenka told you to go to Sunrise Island. Ouch.
